By admin | September 20, 2011
In some areas today, monthly energy bills have already surpassed monthly mortgage and rent costs. We can win the battle against our ever rising energy bills with more concentrated conservation efforts, and further application of renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and biofuels.
Our monthly energy bills include the cost of electricity, gas, water, and fuels. We can save money on energy inside our homes, outdoors, and in our vehicles as well. Most of us are already applying common energy conservation, such as raising and lowering thermostats according to the seasons, and turning off lights when not in use.
You can save even more money by establishing the following habits..
Use CFL light bulbs
Unplug small electrical gadgets, appliances, and computers when not in use
Draw shades down during summer, up during winter
Use fans instead of air conditioning
Use solar products whenever possible
Set hot water heater at 120
Close vents and shut doors to unused rooms
Replace furnace filters regularly
Reduce outdoor watering
Cut back on number, and length of showers
Only full loads in dishwasher and washing machines
Use aerating, low-flow faucets and shower heads
Challenge family members to think of more ways to save energy, and then apply them!
