Are Solar Panels Really Worth It

By admin | September 15, 2011

Solar panels harness solar cells from the sun and convert the light into electric energy. While there are many pros and cons of these panels, the question is: Are solar panels worth installing?
There are several benefits to the installation of solar panels, including saving money on your energy bills. Solar panels produce the electricity that runs through your home; therefore, your utility bills will cost next to nothing. As of now, the government has found no way to be able to charge or tax the use of sunlight for energy.
By using solar panels you could also earn tax cuts and energy credits. Because solar panels are a source of renewable energy, the U.S. government offers up to 2,000 of tax cuts each year for homes with solar panels. Energy credits are also given to homes that use less energy than the panels produce.
Pollution, including carbon dioxide, mercury, and nitrogen oxide, is greatly reduced by using solar panels because they don’t burn fuel; therefore, no emissions are released into the environment.
The main negative to solar panels is the cost of purchasing and installing them. An estimated cost of 30,000 – 40,000 is the upfront cost of solar panels to a single family home. Generally, it takes a large number of panels to produce enough energy to satisfy the home’s daily energy usage.
Solar panels can only be used during the day, while the sun is shining. At night, you can only use the energy that was stored during the day.
